What is central-trains.co.uk?
centraltrains.co.uk aims to map, in real time several major passenger routes in the West and East Midlands.
This mapping is derived from freely available open data provided under licence by Network Rail. All maps have been drawn by logging the movement of trains over a period of time, and built up from that.
The maps at present are incomplete, and will continue to evolve over time. Most passenger lines are included and major freight and relief lines are also shown. The maps are designed to look like traditional signalling diagrams.
This site sadly does not work with all browsers. There is a need to render scalable vector graphics (svg) files, which requires Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome or Microsoft Internet Explorer 9 or later. It is untested on Opera or Safari.
The about page gives much more details on what the various codes mean.
These maps are for amusement only
THEY MUST NOT BE USED FOR OPERATIONAL OR SAFETY CRITICAL APPLICATIONS.
There is an inherent time lag which can be can be as long as 90
seconds. On top of that, the data streams can stop periodically and the
logging service can crash.
Use for journey planning at the user's risk.
